Charming colonial couple blue-and-white ware figurines. This particular large piece features a handsome mounted gentleman trying to win the affections of a beautiful demure young lady holding a fan.

Known as blue-and-white ware, white porcelain is hand painted with blue under the high gloss glaze. It has been appreciated and beloved across the world since the technique was first created in the 9^th century.

The piece was cast, and then fine applied porcelain details such as the lace on the gentleman’s cuff and lady’s dress, along with gold painted details were added for extra dimension and beauty.

These beautiful pieces were mass produced in Asia during the 40’s and 50’s as an affordable alternative to popular Staffordshire style porcelain, and snatched up as fashionable collectibles by our grandmothers. Their nostalgic value, timeless charm and affordability make them beloved still today.

The fetching blue, white, and gold colors go well with many decorating styles including, Country French, formal or even Asian blue and white decor. We have more blue and white ware colonial figurines in our store; add to your collection and save with combined shipping!

Condition: Used; excellent condition. No chips, cracks, stains, discolorations, scratches, crazing, or repairs. There are a few dark flecks in the porcelain, and a few gray marks on the horses haunch. These are all under the glaze and result as part of the manufacturing process.

Dimensions: The piece stands a full 9” tall. The base measures 7-3/4”L x 4-1/2”W.
