Mode of action
PhytoClone
is used for in vivo Orchid Multiplication. It can be spread on the node
of an orchid inflorescence. The cytokinin component induces the
regeneration of a mother plant clone. Nodes on e.g. Phalaenopsis spikes
will form either vegetative growth (also known as Keiki) or floral
growth. The application of PhytoClone before differentiation of the node
tissue will stimulate plantlet formation. The main component of
PhytoClone is 6-Benzylaminopurine (BAP). BAP generally influences the
growth of orchids by increasing the proportion of flowering, reducing
the time for growth and contribute to multiply number of leaves and
flowers produced without affecting the size of the flowers [2]. Because
BAP has a restricted capability to translocate, it can be used to apply
it at specific locations.
The application of PhytoClone is not
restricted on Orchid Multiplication. The ingredients show effects on a
large number of other plant species. Nevertheless, the effectivity of
PhytoClone always depends upon plant species. Different Orchid species
will show different responses on PhytoClone.
Application
The following steps describe the application of PhytoClone for orchid multiplication:
*
Choose a node which is close to the base of the plant, as it will
increase the chance for Keiki induction. Remove the braclet of the
flower stalk to expose the bud. This step should be done very carefully.
*
Take a small amount of PhytoClone and spread it on the bud. This step
can be repeated after two weeks if the application does not lead to the
desired result (swelling of the bud indicates the differentiation
process).
* If the plantlet has developed intact leaves and roots, it can be removed.
