Just like the acclaimed Ken Smith BSR “B” model it is based on, the new KSD Burner bass is constructed of a North American alder body and 3-peice hard maple neck with a 24 fret rosewood fretboard. The electronics package starts with Ken Smith Design soapbar pickups powered by a defeatable 2-band active EQ, providing the most discernible player with a rich palette of tonal options. The nickel finished top-loading high mass bridge and control hardware accentuate the appearance and performance of this exquisite instrument.
This bass has not yet had a home in consumer hands! It is lightly stamped "used" on the back of the headstock. This designation means the bass has a minor cosmetic blemish. It is a completely playable instrument with no sacrifice of tone, structure, or playability. This particular bass has some very light ripples in the finish following the woodgrain beneath. This is not a bad thing, as it’s a sign that the finish is not too thick and will not choke the resonance of the body. There is a small scuff on the edge of the neck pickup cavity, which I have included a close-up photo of. Lastly, the bass has had a professional repair to seal an 1/8” long finish crack on the side of the body at the bass-side edge of the neck pocket. This was a crack in the finish only, not in the wood, and has been sealed very nicely by a KSD-authorized refurbisher to ensure there is no problem in the future. I have included a close-up photo of this as well. Aside from what I have described, this bass is in flawless condition.
This bass has received a professional setup and is ready to play! The action is good and low right up and down the fretboard. This bass nails the modern bass tone with big soapbar pickups and equally big low end with nice mid-register and high-end presence. The active electroncs can be bypassed for a more traditional tone as well, making it a very versatile instrument no matter what tone the music calls for!
