Description

1967 Marshall JTM50 50w 'Black Flag' Plexi Amplifier, the first year of the gold back panel.

This particular model is the extremely rare 'Hendrix Black Flag' period, where Marshall changed the back panel from cream to gold, along with some other minute changes. The Black Flag, mustard caps (dated late 1966 and first quarter 1967), the EL34 '784-128' transformer, GZ34 rectifier, amongst other things, date this amplifier to very early 1967.

This amplifier is possibly one of the most famous sounding amplifiers - well known for launching British blues-rock music in the 1960s.

 Cosmetic Inspection

This amplifier has been gigged but looked after in it's time. As you can see, there are a few scrapes and knocks to the tolex, most notably on the left side front. Under the replacement logo there are some filled in holes from a previous larger logo fitted in the 1970s. Finally, the indicator light surround has broken off in the past, as pictured, so we've left it as it is.

We've tried to be as honest as possible regarding the condition and, quite frankly, it's not as bad as we describe above. The pictures show clearly the cosmetic condition from all angles.

 Originality

We believe all the parts that matter are original, as pictured. However, the two power switches have been replaced sometime in the past.

The GZ34 rectifier had been removed when we got this in. However, we have professionally replaced this function to original standards, as you can see in the pictures.

As mentioned, the knobs are original period replacements, with a bit of give (they stand out from the chassis further than original) but these can be drilled further in if needed, or maybe some of you Marshall heads have original 60s correct knobs. This is hardly recognisable but we wouldn't want to sell it without clarity.
