Description

1959 Vox AC15 / AC1 1st Circuit TV Front Fawn Beige Combo.

This was one of the first Vox amplifiers ever made - a true piece of history! What's more, this is the 1st circuit (AC1 Prototype)! It really is a one of a kind piece for both player and collector. More information about this particular amplifier can be found here - http://www.voxshowroom.com/uk/amp/ac15_1959.html

This amplifier has backplate serial number 3730 and 09JD Celestion Date Code (9th October 1959) - dating this amplifier to late 1959.

Service History

We pride ourselves on our inspections and the professional service of each amplifier, making this ready to plug in and play anywhere within the UK. This has just been looked at and cleaned up to the best of our ability. With this amplifier being the age it is, there was quite a bit needed doing to it. However, we kept all parts for the buyer to decide whether to install back to original. The following was done to this amplifier:

- This came to us in a horrible black vinyl covering. We decided to make a 'thing' of it and recover it with the fawn tolex currently on the market. This has given it some character from its recovered state. Unfortunately the original vinyl is long gone.

- Found 3 faulty vib/trem cans that were originally sealed. Vox Showroom states the following - Vox was so protective of the Vibravox circuit design that they initially encapsulated some key electronic components of the circuit into a set of three sealed modules. These modules are similar in appearance to a typical chassis mount filter capacitor found in higher power amplifiers. Jennings did everything in their power to discourage prying eyes from opening one of these sealed modules.

- The circuits underneath the cans were manufactured from original schematics and have been replaced. The original cans come with the sale of the amplifier, ready for anyone wanting to 'tackle' the insides of them!

- Replaced additional faulty capacitors and vib/trem valve base.

Parts included in the sale - WIMA capacitors, Bulgin plug, 'Secret' Vib/Trem cans.

Cosmetic Inspection

You can see the condition of this amplifier in the photographs. The amplifier is in great, used condition. The logo and front grill cloth retain their original glory, along with the handle, and most other parts. The chassis panel has a few scratches to it, adding to the character. All around a great amplifier.

Originality

Aside from the information above, we believe the only other things to be replaced are the knobs (which would have originally been white and gold).

Everything of value still remains (or is included in the sale), including the transformers, speaker (Rola B024), capacitors, cans, etc.
