THE SUZUKI BASED JC MIDGE ROADSTER - INTRODUCTION
The system allows you to construct the replacement body for any Suzuki SJ410/413/ Samurai yourself from panels of plywood and aluminium using full size paper patterns to cut out each panel.

The acceleration and performance of the car is exceptional! The low gearing gives great acceleration and the reduction in body weight allows 70mph in 4th gear with 5th still to go!

HISTORY
I conceived this simplified method of coach building 'Specials' in 1986 with the original 'JC Midge.'
Google 'JC Midge' and see just some of the hundreds of cars that have been built using this method.
 THE PROBLEM
Sadly the original Triumph based cars can no longer be constructed for use in the UK due to IVA rules governing chassis modification.
THE SOLUTION
The all new 4WD 'JC Midge Roadster' is not restricted by IVA regulations and is the first, and to my knowledge, the only 'Sports Special' that can be constructed  at home in your own garage, only requiring a regular MOT test.
The car featured above is nroperly registered on the V5c as a JC Midge ( No longer Suzuki) and has kept it's original registration number (not shown in photo)
It is taxed, MOT'd, insured (Adrian Flux £200)  and fully road legal and the construction method has been recognised by DVLA and approved.
This is because you construct the replacement body youself like a big model kit, and the chassis and running gear of the donor car remain totally unaltered.
The concept is extremely simple and very low cost.
A Midge Roadster body uses traditional coachbuilding materials of wood and aluminium.
You will need just 4 sheets of 18mm exterior ply and four sheets of aluminium.
This means that the replacement body is assembled for just the cost of the raw materials, namely around £300!
The panels are cut using a jig-saw, making use of 19 full size AO paper pattern sheets that are simply stuck down so that the outline of the panels can be cut out.  The patterns are overwritten with joining instructions and all screw and bolt holes are clearly marked.
JUST LIKE MAKING A BIG BOX!
Using wooden connecting blocks, these shaped panels are just screwed and glued together to form the body.
The main plywood body  panels are skinned with .5mm aluminium (which is thin enough to cut with scissors!) simply stuck on.
The main engine side panels and bonnet panels and scuttle top are pre cut shapes of free standing 18swg aluminium that can be curved by hand..
The whole construction is extremely strong and robust.
 REMOVING THE SUZUKI BODY
As you may know the body of a Suzuki SJ is extremely simple to remove, being secured with just 8 main bolts.
 MOUNTING THE NEW BODY
The new body is bolted on in it's place and original components such as the pedal assembly, steering column, spare wheel carrier, instruments, wiring loom, handbrake and even the door hinges are all re-used!
YOU CAN MAKE ANY FABRICATED PARTS  YOURSELF OR BUY FROM US
Simplified working drawings are supplied to allow you to make your own fabricated items such as wing stays, headlamp brackets etc., or we can supply these items ready to fit - including a windscreen frame that can be glazed with safety glass by any local  windscreen company.
 OTHER PARTS
The radiator grille is from a black cab (eBay) and all the period style head lights (eBay) and side lights only cost around £100 in total!
 SIMPLE HAND TOOLS
The main body can be constructed in just a few days using simple hand tools.
 COST
The car in this listing cost around £1000 to build, including the donor car!
NO IVA TEST NEEDED
Other similar styled cars are required to be subjected to the IVA test  which costs nearly £500 with an £80 re-test fee each time they fail to comply!
 COMPLIANCE
£99 for a set of  JC 'Midge 'Roadster' cutting patterns guarantees compliance with DVLA rules.
The 19 AO shets of Patterns/templates come rolled up in a 1 metre long box (Not folded) Carriage is £10.99.
 THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL IS INCLUDED
The instruction  manual shows 2 colour photo's per page of every detail and stage of construction , and unlike a Haynes manual, has large clear pictures and large easy to read text!

THE BUILD MANUAL IS ALSO AVAILABLE SEPARATELY FOR JUST £10 (Post Free) - See our 'sellers other items'
If you want to assess the project you can buy the build manual on it's own for just £10 (refundable against plans/patterns  purchase)
