For sale is an original signed 1900 oil on canvas sporting dog painting.

This superb painting features an extremely well painted English pointer with a Woodcock game bird in his mouth just after retrieval.

The painting is signed in the lower right corner. "L. Brown. 1900".

We are unsure of who the artist is as there are many L Brown artists listed. However we do find a Minnesota artist by the name of Lois Henkel Brown who painted sporting dog and wild life scenes at around the same time. This painting  and came from that area and was in an Ohio collection for some time. It is only our speculation. We are unsure.

Regardless of the artist, this painting is a wonderful example of an American sporting dog scene.

It features in English pointer dog just making the turn after retrieving an American woodcock bird. He stands at full attention as if listening to a command from his master as lightly grasps the bird in his mouth. The scene is set against a lush wooded interior landscape.

The painting really screams for a period late 19th century gold gilded picture frame. The current frame is contemporary but still nice.

Condition: Excellent. Cleaned, re-framed in contemporary frame.
