Marlux MX-56 turntable made in Japan c.1975. 33 rpm & 45 rpm player fitted with new drive belt and stylus.

I recently acquired a quality hi-fi separates set up from the mid 70's (Technics tuner amp and cassette and a pair of Wharfedales) and this was the turntable. I hadn't heard of the make before but a little research has told me that they were a quality brand made in Japan and this certainly is a very substantial and well made piece of kit weighing in at nearly 6 kg.
It was stated that it required a new belt when I bought it but I subsequently realised that the stylus was also missing so both have now been renewed.
Hooked up to my modern system it sounds superb!

Its also in excellent cosmetic condition with hardly a mark on the smoked acrylic lid.

If you study the pictures you will see that its a pretty high tech item; the playing weight is adjusted by means of not only the conventional weight on the tone arm but there is also a secondary tiny little weight that is held by a fine wire that can be positioned for even finer adjustment.
There is also a 'play/cut' lever but frankly I don't know what this does as the facsimile manual that comes with it doesn't mention it.
To operate it I have simply been using the lever to raise the arm and then when one moves it towards the record the platter starts to rotate and I then simply use the lever again to lower it to play.

I believe that the Marlux has been unused for quite some time before I acquired it so I would recommend that it is serviced, properly lubricated etc. and be aware that after transit turntables often require adjustment such as to the playing weight and speed.

Obviously an item such as this will require careful packaging and p&p will reflect this.
