On display is a WW 2 New Testament Heart Shield Bible. The Heart Shield was a metal plate added to a standard issue Bible generally by a family member or loved one. The Heart Shield concept was designed to give the soldier some measure of protection over the vital heart area of the body. This one is made out of Steel with Gold Plating and says "God's Weapon”. While it is not actually “Bullet Proof,” this is a term that came to be associated with metal covered Bibles. As the name suggests it was designed to be carried in the breast pocket over the heart area to protect one from bullets or shrapnel.
