Meissen Antique Lady of the Mopsorden Masonic Secret Society Figure - JJ Kandler

Description

I am proud to present from a recent estate sale a rare first quality hand painted figure figurine by Meissen Germany called the Lady of the Mopsorden also known as  the Lady of the Order of the Pugs (mops in German).Originally createD by famous Meissen modeler JJ Kandler in 1746 this is a later pull with a date of 1884.

Featured is a beautiful German 18th century dressed woman. She is holding a pug dog in her left hand and there is also another one partly hidden beneath her crinoline dress. Her floral dress is richly detailed in gold. She wears a modest white cape on her head. The base has lovely floral on it.

The bottom of this figurine has model number 954 impressed into it plus the blue underneath the glaze pommel crossed swords ma There is a number 84 I believe stands for 1884.

In near excellent condition with only one small shallow chip on the folded edge of her dress which I have highly magnified in picture numer 5.

kandler made two models of this lady one on a high base and one on a floral base as this one is.

Measurements are around 9 1/2"H X 9 "W. Attesting to its quality it is a very heavy figurine for its size.

The secret society the Mopsorden or Order of the Pug was started in 1740 by Clemens August of Bavaria. The pug dog was the Orders symbol and it was a Masonic Catholic Society that began because the pope forbid Catholics in 1738 from becoming Freemasons. The pug dog symbol mopes in German stood for loyalty fidelity and steadfastness. Unlike other masonic orders of the 18th century women were allowed to be members as long as they were Catholics.

I know you will love owning and displaying this rare and valuable figurine in your household or office.
As always I am beginning this auction at a very low starting price.
Good luck and happy bidding.
