Antique Oil Painting on Canvas BULL ELK Stag in Mountain Lake Landscape; Signed. Original Oil Painting on canvas; circa 1880-1900. Framed in Ornately Carved Deep, Real Wood FRAME. Signed with initials that I think are EDJ or FDJ or possibly the middle letter is an O? (see photos). Not sure who the artist is but this is wonderfully executed painting with great technique and lots of character!! Does not look like an amateur painting. On the back of the painting is faintly visible in pencil THE CHALLENGE which refers to the bellowing / bugling of the bull elk (see last photos). Great glowing underpainting and handling of light in this autumn scene; Superb detail. See the closeups of brushwork. Professionally framed in beautiful, heavy, deep frame. Size is 25 3/4" x 19 3/4" overall. Frame is in excellent condition; no damage to speak of. The painting is also in excellent condition; great color! NO holes or damage to canvas. Minor age crazing to the paint (see photos); but paint and surface is secure, it NOT flaking, or loose at all; but I just want to mention this for the record. Canvas, frame are sturdy and excellent integrity. This is a Wonderful! old painting from a fabulous Pomfret, CT estate that was chock full of marvelous antiques. It is a lovely classic painting to have in any room and is ready to hang! Shipping in the continental US is calculated to your zip code.
