If you think my price is a bit high just imagine how much more you spend on your cellphone bill each year and I sell a few twigs sticks and leaves that I burn to keep the house warm for over $3,000.00 each and I can just chop another scrap piece of brush trimming in the yard and I can never get another one of these rare radios ever in my life, so go figure. I have a ztel SDP-600 full-duplex interconnect that I will be selling. With a device like this you can literally extend the range of your home telephone using this ham radio so that you have your own personal cell phone service for miles around your home up to 100 miles if you go through a repeater.
Short version: This is an excellent working tm742a kenwood ham radio TRIBANDER WITH 2 METER and 440mhz AND 1.2GHZ MICROWAVE SUPER HIGH FREQUENCY transceiver. So it is a police and FIRE AND sheriff scanner you can even listen
to the Micdonalds folks take orders if you program in their frequency in your local city. The Sheriff use 150mhz up to 165mhz. You can get 24 hour
weather on 162.400 mhz also. You can get local city police by scanning your 460mhz to about 470 mhz. The ambulance is also up there as well.
It works great as you can clearly see on the lit and running display. Cosmetically this radio is about a 9 out of 10 there are almost no scratches at all especially, there are no noticeable scratches on the most important display face.. The radio works great. The radio sounds loud and clear on all bands as I have tested all of them talking to the locals. It works great and looks great! It also comes with the FREE TELEPHONE DIAL OUT mic that is in NEW condition! I tested it once. JUST LOOK AT THE COILS OF THE CORD! THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY TIGHT AND PERFECT JUST LIKE BRAND NEW! You can even scan commercial airliner traffic to hear the air plains landing!
Scan and listen to all your local towns activities. I even listen to the drive up window at taco bell with this unit! It can listen to many many public service conversations! Yes you can really make FREE telephone calls with this radio using the telephone DIAL OUT MIC! The owners manual you can get on line, I have the Japanese version if you want that book I will include it for free just ask. You can also play 3 arcade video games with this radio as well. One of them is space invaders and one is solitaire, I cant remember the other one but you can see them on the manual on line. All the band modules that fit these radios listed above will be prefixed with "UT". You can get a UT-220 or UT-1.2 etc, any UT module you see on eBay are designed by kenwood to fit any of these radios. They are all the same. This I know for sure and you can check on line as well as this is public information.
This is a kenwood Tri-Band Amateur radio. Radio will memorize frequencies , offsets, tones etc. Picture is of actual unit. Includes telephone dial out light at night microphone.
The condition of this radio is OUTSTANDING! No scratches on the transparent part of the display face (this is the most important place to be scratch free) at all and no pealing or fading button lettering neither on the face. Did you know you can also dial phone numbers and make phone calls too with this radio? Most repeaters allow free phone calls to be placed in most every city or town. You simply need to just ask the locals on the radio for the codes. HOW DO I KNOW WHAT SERVICES THE FCC ALLOCATES FOR WHICH BANDS? WELL THAT ANSWER IS SIMPLE. WHEN I OBTAINED MY HAM RADIO LICENSE IT IS ONE OF THE QUESTIONS ASKED TO US ON THE "VE" (VOLUNTEER EXAMINERS TEST SESSION). HAMS ARE REQUIRED TO KNOW THIS TO PASS THEIR EXAM.
· Did you also know this is a police scanner as well. That is correct! You can program this to scan, police, fire, 24hour weather stations, air craft and darn near any public service available can be scanned and listened to with this rig. Now I do know that the 742 WILL ALSO TALK ON THE POLICE frequencies because I have pressed the talk button on my other 742(not this one but on others) and that radio even transmitted over there. I even got a public service and police frequency book and programmed my other 742 radio to transmit on the input of our local police repeater and with the proper pl set on my other 742 rig, my scanner heard the police machine on the mountain come up when I squeezed the mic. AND IT IS EXTREMELY SIMPLE TO DO THIS! So even though this radio may have the capability to do these fancy things PLEASE don't attempt to try the mod on this as it is not legal to talk out of the ham bands.......
· So yes this radio does defiantly have the capability to be used in any police car if you set it up to do so and will out perform the most advanced modern day government police radios by about 1000 to one! This radio will blow the best police radio clear out of the water, there is no comparison. A police radio could never dial into a phone line with the touch of a button as the government does not put dialing buttons on police radios nor can they connect their radios into the internet with programs like IRLP. This radio does all that and 1000 things more than the most advanced government radio equipment. The government gives those guys cell phones and specially designed laptops for doing those other things and we all pay for their cell bills with our tax dollars. What’s even more hilarious is that I once heard our local police man say that it cost the police station over $3000.00 each to buy their new police radios. Then I had to laugh because I know ours are 1000 times more powerful and cost a fraction of what they pay for their junk.
Again PLEASE do not mess around with the transmit out side of the ham bands as it is not legal to talk out of the ham bands, you may lessen but you must not talk, please be a responsible adult when using this powerful rig........
This is considered by hams to be the one of the best radios ever made. You can't buy these radios new in AES or HRO, the new radios now are all duel band and most do not have all the features that this radio offers like the cross-banding. This is the radio of choice and puts all the new radios you find in stores to shame because it will do so much more than they will do! These radios are getting very rare and hard to find, so you don't see them often on ebay and that is because people don't want to sell theirs, they want to keep them. Most hams prefer to keep these because they are the really good ones! What I like about this radio is that you can cross band repeat with it, go in on one band and come out on another, so it acts like a repeater for a handy talkie radio. Its an awesome radio to say the least!

I would prefer this unit go to a licensed ham being a ham myself for about 15 years. I am also a very very very active ham and am current and up to date with all the fancy modern features and changes that have come to the ham radio community. Although the law does not require licensing to purchase these I will not obligate you to have a call sign to buy this rig. Please keep in mind these are not toys and require licenses to transmit on because the owner needs to take the responsibility to use the radio correctly. A lot of serious problems in the entire city or community will occur if you do not take the responsibility to use this radio correctly. We have had huge coverage repeaters shut down recently in our area due to improper use of these radios so it is important to use them correctly. Also some public service systems have also seen these same problems. Lots of systems now cover several states and go internationally as well so it is very very important to use this radio correctly. I am a very active ham radio operator so I do know what I am talking about when ever I give you information about ham radio. Go ahead and ask any questions about ham radio and I will give you a great and accurate response.
