Nintendo 64 Controller

Preparing For Refurbishing

This controller is FULLY cleaned, serviced, and tested. Every individual part has been removed, cleaned, scrubbed, and otherwise deloused. Every bit of functionality has been addressed and restored. Each controller is ready to play, and will perform flawlessly. The first step in the rebuilding process it to tear the controller down for a deep cleaning. Each part is individually inspected for damage, and replaced as necessary.

Washing the Cases

All of the case parts are run through a repurposed dishwasher, with settings and soaps carefully tested to clean completely without any melting, distortion, or discoloration. Every possible trace of the former owner is cleaned off and disinfected. There will be NO Cheeto stains, Mountain Dew stickiness, or dead skin cell gunk built up in the seams. The cord is also wiped down thoroughly while checking the jacket for damage. While some small nicks or rough patches are to be expected, there will be absolutely no breaks in the outer jacket that expose the insulation or inner wiring.

Button Contacts

The rubber pads are cleaned, then checked for an appropriate level of conductivity and bounce. The contacts on the circuit board are sprayed with a chemical that removes any contamination, while protecting from any future oxidation. This greatly improves the connection between the conductive rubber pads and the contacts on the motherboard, ensuring precise and predictable button response.

Thumbstick

The thumbstick is completely rebuilt as well. The curved black plastic parts are replaced completely, while the rest of the original parts are restored. Before reassembly, every moving part is greased with white lithium. This helps the thumbstick move smoothly, while protecting it from wear. Once restored, I grade these sticks as a B, because they will still have roughly a millimeter of play in any direction. For a more detailed description of the joystick restoration process, check my store listings for B grade thumbsticks.

Polishing the Case

The controller is finally reassembled, with every part going back in its correct location. There will be no missing screws, or misaligned case parts. Finally, a system of plastic polish designed to restore and protect plastic is applied carefully. It removes small scratches and blemishes, restores the original shine of the controller, and helps to preserve it as long as possible.

FINAL NOTES: Cosmetically, everything possible is done to restore the original appearance of the controller. However, it is still a used controller. Please do not expect to receive a museum quality controller in mint cosmetic condition. There will be some scratches and scuffs. These controllers are intended for a gamer who will be using them, and need them to function perfectly. They are not meant to be framed and put on display. If you're looking for collector grade cosmetic condition, please look elsewhere.
