19thC Victorian Winterhalder & Hoffmeier German Oak & Brass Bracket Clock

…… It is going to be very easy to describe this Victorian Key Wind Bracket Clock; that’s because it is perfect, working condition. The base measures 7 1/1 inches by 9 ¾ inches and the overall height to the top of the brass finial is 17 ¼ inches. All the detailed brass ormolu is perfect and the solid oak case retains its original finish. The clock face, hands, and gilt ormolu around the face is also perfect. We even have two keys to the doors. Both springs are strong and when we attached the original pendulum, this clock began to work.

Winterhalder & Hofmeier were considered the finest clockmakers in the Victorian era. They were based in several towns in Germany’s Black Forest region. The company was established in 1810 by Thomas Winterhalder in Friedenweiler, southern Germany, and was continued by his three sons Matthäus, Karl and Linus.  Winterhalder and Hofmeier are possibly the most famous of the German Victorian clockmakers. The firm was started by Thomas Winterhalder in Schwarzenbach, Germany in 1810, taking Anton Hofmeier into partnership in 1850, with the business finally closing on the death of Winterhalder's last son Linus in 1910.
