Glass Beer Stein Ruby Red Overlay Cut Optical Circa 1870

This beautiful old stein was mouth-blown of crystal glass into a very elegant shape around 1870. It was colored in bright ruby using "flash" method very common in 1850 - 1870. It was then cut to clear with a stone wheel to create beautiful optical effects. This very simple but quite interesting technique was done by a skilfull craftsman with exterme precision so the effect is quite astonishing! The lid is pewter with clear glass inlay.

The stein is in overall very good condition with no chips, cracks, damage or repairs. There is light scuffing to the base and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age.

The stein measures about 5-1/4 inches tall and 3-3/4 inches in diameter at the base.  with the pewter handle it stands 6-1/4 inches tall to the top of the thumb lift.
