IS IT LEGAL TO STAMP COINS? Isnt that defacing MONEY??? No No No.. Then explain that please..? Just a little. Ok, Here goes..
Hand stamped coins, cut coins . painted coins for sake of repurposing as a piece of jewelry- do not violate any U.S. statute provided that the alteration to the coin is NOT done with fraudulent intent....for example fraudulent intent would be... trying to turn a 10 into a 100..woah..like 10 dollars into 100... Thats not good..But to make something artsy for display only..thats ok. I spent hours researching this talking with people lay and legal..folks who had experience with this ,, my own attorney,,So to all those who wondered..
Just send those unaware to the following link paying attention to the section that deals with jewelry and art.
