Superb Early Doulton Lambeth Jug Or Tankard - Pig In Rural Scene - Hannah B.Barlow - c.1872

An excellent, important, and early Doulton Lambeth stoneware jug or tankard by Hannah Barlow with everything you would expect from one of her early works. The piece is decorated with typical incised decoration the subject being a pig in a rural scene against a background of grass and foliage. This is rare subject matter for Hannah and the pig on this piece exhibits the almost human facial expression often seen on her early works . To the base is the early impressed Doulton Lambeth Mark used from 1869-1872 - also present is the incised mark for Hannah Barlow. A superb early example for the discerning collector superbly executed with unusual subject matter.

Condition

 There has been restoration to the rim of the vase where we suspect a silver band may at some point have been removed - mentioned for accuracy is a small burst glaze bubble to the front. A fine early example with rare subject matter by a top artist.
