This mid-to-late 1930's compressed cork and leather National Fire Brigades Association (NFBA) fire helmet with high comb by Merryweather and Sons of London is an extremely collectable and somewhat rare item (and genuinely I don't use that term loosely).

Many brigades dropped this design soon after it's introduction, particularly with the onset of WW2 and the issuing of military style 'Tommy' helmets and many more brigades didn't adopt them at all. London's fire brigade used a similar design with a more pointed comb for just one year and after the war private company brigades where almost the only brigades still wearing them.

Not to be confused with the later Middlesex pattern which had a stepped comb which was also lower. This is an NFBA helmet produced by Helmets Ltd on behalf of Merryweather. In the photographs I have included an advert for reference only. A copy is not included in the listing.

This helmet is in worn condition that is very much commensurate with it's age and the materials from which it is built. However, it is still a robust item considering it is around 80 years old. I have modern and vintage helmets in stock and coming in regularly but this is by far my favourite piece.
