Helios 44-4 lens is a classic 58mm lens that was produced as the kit prime on the Zenit-series russian SLR. Its production was stopped in early 90s, but the lens has found recognition among contemporary photographers. Some may consider Russian lenses brick-like but they are well constructed and not worse than recent plastic models. The lens has manual focus so you need to get used to. You will need to be creative with this lens and also need to be quick because of the manual focus.

CPL Filter
A Polarizer is different than most filters in that it is composed of two pieces of glass, mounted independently inside a round frame so that one can be rotated relative to the other. As it is rotated, it increasingly cuts out glare and haze. Circular Polarizing filter eliminates reflections from non-metallic surfaces, and increases contrast and color saturation.
Increases color and contrast by removing unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass. Reduce glare and reflections significantly from non-metallic surfaces by using the CPL filter. Foliage is richer, skies bluer. Polarizers are most useful for increasing general outdoor color saturation and contrast. Polarizers can darken a blue sky, a key application, on color as well as on black-and-white film.
Polarizing filter cannot be successfully emulated by digital post-processing.
Polarizers can also control unwanted reflections from surfaces such as glass and water. For best results, be at an angle of 33 degrees incident to the reflecting surface. Viewing through while rotating the polarizer will show the effect. It may not always be advisable to remove all reflections.
Polarizers allow color and contrast enhancement, as well as reflection control, using optical principles different from any other filter types. Most light that we record is reflected light that takes on its color and intensity from the objects we are looking at.
