Vintage Gold Lion Paragon Loving Cup King George VI & Queen Elizabeth 1937

This is an outstanding loving cup from Paragon and explains why this maker held the Royal Warrant. This is possibly one of the best commemoratives made for the 1937 Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth,the Queen Mother.The design is recognized as one of the all time classics and stands out from the more mundane pieces.

Paragon always achieve a superb standard of design and quality of decoration, and with this lavish Lion handle mug the potters and designers have excelled themselves.

The twin lion handles are what makes this piece so unique and the entire decoration is finished to exacting standards with the Royal Coat-of-Arms enameled in color.The Coat-of-Arms is set within the Garter Belt with the motto of the Garter Knights "Honi Soit Quai Mal Y Pense" -- "Shame on Him That Thinks This Evil" .This surmounted by the Imperial State Crown and flanked by the heraldic figures of the lion and unicorn.

Complimenting the lavish design on the front,the back of the mug has the Royal Cypher of King George VI flanked by the British and Commonwealth flags above the date of the Coronation.
It is in excellent condition, without any chips, cracks or crazing.The Paragon back stamp and the Royal Warrant are imprinted on the base.
