Artist/technician, Mark Aronson, studied saxophone privately with the great master, Sigurd Rascher. Aronson has specialized in the restoration of vintage saxophones since 1985 and is well known for his application of acoustic principles to the improvement of intonation on saxophones. His custom overhauls and handmade necks have gained him an international reputation among some of the world’s greatest saxophone artists. Aronson is one of the only repair technicians in the world who has restored instruments from the shop of Adolphe Sax’s father (Charles Sax) as well as those of the master himself.

Restoration Philosophy: The restoration techniques developed and practiced by Mark Aronson have set the standards for how repair technicians should approach restoration of vintage saxophones. Above all other things, the physical, acoustical and mechanical integrity of the instrument must be maintained.......cosmetic perfection is not the goal nor should it dictate restoration procedures. Scratches, nicks, deep pits and minor imperfections in the metal are not sanded out at all and traditional dent removal techniques that cause excessive metal fatigue are avoided (no emery, tripoli or other cutting down is done; surface preparation only!). Keys and bright areas are color buffed only (after careful straightening of the hinge tubing/rods/cups). Tone holes are leveled.  Instruments with a bead-blasted finish are custom masked.  Recutting of engraving is done by Sherry Huntley....the best musical instrument engraver working today.
