WWI Old Contemptible Cold Cast Bronze Military Statue Sculpture

Olde Earth Castings is proud to present this impressive cold cast bronze figurine of a World War 1 Soldier representing the Old Contemptibles.

Making up the British Expeditionary Force, these soldiers were the first to be sent across to France, and were the First, Second and Third Divisions, plus the First and Second Cavalry Divisions. Very quickly in 1914 they became known as the Old Contemptibles.

These men consisted of veterans from the Boer War and professional career soldiers.

This heavy cold cast Bronze statue has been sculptured by the Artist Paul Edward Dunne, who is himself ex Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery.

The attention to detail is astonishing, and his face in particular is expressive and brave on the front can be seen the General Service Badge, with 4 of the main battles on the base rear. He stands proudly upright with his rifle over his shoulder, and his poncho on top of his pack. Incidentally the poncho, used as a groundsheet to sleep on during campaigns, was introduced to the British Military in the Boer War, and was routinely issued to fighting men until the 1970's!

It stands 11 inches high (28 centimetres) and it weighs an impressive 2.25 lbs or 1 kilo. cold cast bronze is a bronze coated figure back filled with resin and bronze ingots to give wieght this system is over a hundred years old and gives a finer finish.Each piece is coated with laquer to protect it there is no paint involved.Bye the antiques of tomorrow today.
