Lortone is known for their quiet, durable, quality rock tumblers. This one can hold up to 3 pounds of rock for tumbling a large quantity at once. The kit has everything you need to get started: the Lortone 3A rotary rock tumbler, 2 pounds of select tumbling rock mix (with 1"-3" specimens), pre-measured quantities of four polishing grits, and detailed Lortone rock tumbling step-by-step instructions.

The Lortone 3A rock tumbler features a patented rubber barrel with quick-seal cover and a powerful continuous-duty electric motor. The tight-sealing rubber barrel not only produces beautifully polished pieces but provides extra sound absorption for quieter operation. It's capable of running 24 hours per day for years. A rotary tumbler has the advantages of removing all the rough edges to produce nicely rounded corners and also is suitable for tumbling hard minerals. It typically takes 4-6 weeks to completely polish a batch of rocks. One year warranty from Lortone.

Delivery was good even during the holidays. The set-up and manual was really easy and now we wait. The only thing that maybe should've been more clear was that the kit of grit only does one barrel of rock. Had I known that, I would've ordered additional grit. I love it. I had a Lortone when I was a kid. I had it for 20 years until I lost it in a move. This tumbler seems to be every bit as good. Having used a tumbler before I knew that the process would take time and can be a bit messy. So I have not had any unexpected surprises. (Posted on 10/18/12)

Wonderful set but extremely messy when switching out each week. My 6 year old got this for Christmas & was a little offput by the fact that it took weeks to get the pretty "jewels" but using a countdown calender to mark off the days works great. Highly recommend. (Posted on 2/20/12)

Very Sturdy Tumbler Review by Felicia

This rock tumbler is high quality and very good for a new hobbyist. We got great results the very first time. I only wish we had the plastic pellets for our final stages of tumbling (to fill the tumbler space more adequately). I also wished that the package was a bit more appealing since it was a gift--but I fixed that by designing my own colorful lables and adhering them to the plain corrugated cardboard containers that tumbler and powders came in. Other than those 2 very small details-- it is great. We will be ordering refill supplies right away for our next batch of rocks! (Posted on 1/26/12)

It totally ROCKS!! Review by Hilary: We bought this rock tumbler for our twin sons birthday (they are 7). I did a fair amount of research in terms of going with a lesser expensive tumbler or this one. And everything I read convinced me to spend the extra money for a more 'solid/professional' designed kit. 1. If a part were to fail replacing parts is possible. While I don't anticpate that with this model there's comfort that I can contact the manufacturer 2. Runs rather quietly that we can actually have it in our house/laundry room and it's not bothersome. Other tumblers have to be placed out in a garage the sound is so bad. 3. It's solid. We are on our 3rd week and so far so good. Patience is needed so keep that in mind but there are ways to make it fun each week wile the process is taking place. My kids have enjoyed also making a calander to track our progress.
