1938 Velocette GTP, 250cc restoration project- barn find! NO RESERVE!

Here is a superb little project for anyone looking for a higher quality light-weight pre war motorcycle.

The Velocette GTP was quite a revelation in the early 1930’s. In times of austerity whilst other manufacturers were producing some quite cheaply made machines Velocette kept their standards high and introduced this innovative development of their two-stroke range which boasted coil ignition and throttle metered oiling.

The design is very robust and these plucky two-strokes make great pre-war classics these days as they are light, reliable, easy to start and go reasonably well too.

The GTP was the ultimate development of Velocette’s successful range of two-strokes. This one has survived in remarkable unmolested condition and has been awaiting recommissioning / restoration for some time!

The engine turns over ok and the gears select. I haven’t made any attempt to get the bike running, it may pay to clean out the crankcases etc before attempting to do so.

The bike comes with V5, registration number is the original DRT 163 date of registration 19th December 1938.

There is an old style green log book and a V5 doc.

Frame number is GB7101T, engine number is GB7060 both these numbers match the V5 doc.

Clearly the bike is a project. I don’t know exactly how long it has been standing the previous owner acquired the bike in 1976 but there is no sign of it having been used since then.

I’m sure the bike could be recommissioned in oily rag condition if so desired. The tinware is basically very sound.
