FAQs

1. What filter do you use for the conversion, glass or other materials?

-> We only use high quality glass (Germany quality) IR filter for our conversions. We never use low quality glass or plastic filters.

2. What wave length of IR filters that you can offer?

-> We have a wide range from 590nm (Super Color), to 630nm/650nm/680nm (Enhanced color), to 720nm (Standard IR filter), or 850nm / 950nm (B&W IR filter)

We also have special offer at 490nm IR filter for Compact cameras at this moment. If you want to get it for DSLR, please ask.

Also, we are working to supply FULL SPECTRUM conversion for all DSLR and Compact camera. Please notice this in our sale.

3. What style of IR cameras you can sell?

-> We have many options from DSLR to Compact IR converted cameras. If you don’t see the items listing on Ebay store, just give us your enquiry, we will tell you the details. Normally we can keep the items in stock, or supply on demand simply.

4. How is the camera metering after the conversion?
-> The metering will be normal as it is from manufacture. The amount of infrared light varies from scene to scene even if overall brightness is the same. Since the camera light meter detects only visible light you may need (with many cameras you don’t need to do this) to overexpose a bit, for example: +1 stop.

5. Can I still see through viewfinder or use liveview as normal?

-> Yes, you can. Since the IR filter is installed directly in front of the camera’s sensor, it has no effect on the viewfinder from your camera.

If you have the camera with Liveview function, then whenever you look through liveview screen, you will be able to see the photo/video that you can get with IR.

6. Will I need to manually focus to the IR mark or will the auto focus work?
-> You can use both manual focus and autofocus without any problem. The auto focus is adjusted and retains f/2.8 or even f/1.8 accuracy in most cases.

7. Did you adjust the camera well and which lens you adjust to?

-> Yes, when we convert the camera, we already adjust the camera to get the best performance with some specific lens. Normally, autofocus is adjusted to be correct for a 50mm 1.8 lens, however, we also adjust and test the camera on various different fixed lens such as 24mm, 35mm, 85mm, 135mm, and 180mm. All of them perform very well on the camera and the result is quite no significantly different with the outcome of the 50mm f/1.8 lens.

There will be be slightly off at various zoom ranges if using a zoom lens.

With specific cameras (example: Nikon D90, Nikon D7000, Canon 500D…) we may adjust to get the camera working with almost all the lens you can think of.

7a. Will you accept to adjust the camera to the lens that I prefer?

-> Yes, we will do that for extra $30 of charge on top of the purchasing price. If you want to do that, please ask before purchasing the conversion. In case we don’t have the lens you prefer, then you have to send the camera + your lens to us for the conversion. Also, the shipping fee would be increased $10 extra for the insurance + postage back to you.

8. How do you make sure there is no dust trapped during the installation?
-> We have a specifically designed process for dust elimination working to get as close to a dust free conversion. We provide the best clean environment for working on the camera and do our best to get close to a dust free conversion. Both of the IR Filter and the CCD is thoroughly cleaned before the filter conversion is sealed.
However dust is a fact of life in photography and there is about 2% that our IR converted cameras may have one or a very few tiny dust which is very easily removed by Clone function in Photoshop in less than 1 minute.

Also due to the sensor cleaning mechanism is part of the hot pass filter and will also be removed causing loss of this function. If there is any chance that one/or some very tiny dots of dust may appear on the photos at small aperture (higher than f/8) then they actually can be cloned out later when you process via software or minimised by using a larger aperture (f/2-f/8) which should not affect the photo’s result.

We will be responsible to test the camera carefully before sending out to make sure you will be satisfied with the outcome.

9. How long you will be able to convert my camera and return to me?

-> Conversion will take around 2-5 business days then it will plus the time to return to your address.

10. Can I just order the infrared filter and do the conversion myself?
-> Yes, we will sell many options like this. Please keep watching our Ebay store and our own website.

11. What is the benefits between DSLR and Compact IR cameras?

-> Normally, DSLR IR cameras will give you a wide range of lens to shoot with IR, also it will create excellent photos from fixed lens. Not all DSLR IR cameras can take videos (or very expensive to get)

Compact IR cameras is light and easy to use, can take photos and videos with IR. Price is very cheap compare with DSLR cameras.

12. Do I have to use tripod or different IR filter to get IR photos with your IR cameras?

-> Since the camera was converted with internal IR filter, there is no need of a tripod for normal shooting conditions.

There is no need for any additional filter in front of the lens and shutter speeds on a daylight scene unless you want to get different wave length (must be higher number than the one converted into the camera. Ex: if your camera converted to 630nm, then you have to use at least 650nm or higher number to get different in result with external IR filter).

13. What will happen if the camera fails to operate in time of warranty?

-> We supply 90 days warranty on camera body. If anything goes wrong with camera body itself, we will be responsible to get it back, double check, replace faulty part, or replace the whole new camera for you. Returning fee is on your side.

14. What will you do if you convert my camera then you break it?

-> We are not dealer of any camera brand (Nikon, or Canon) so we can’t give you any warranty on the camera itself when we do IR conversion.

We will always check your camera conditions (both physical and electrical conditions) before converting. If there is any issue we will return it to you as it is without further modification, the returning fee will be paid by your side.

When we do the conversion, if there is any chance that the camera does not work as it should be, we will be responsible to replace for you a working one with the same condition.

15. If the IR filter gets bad dirt/scratches, what do we do?

-> We supply 12 months warranty on filter. If anything goes wrong with IR filter, we will be responsible to take items back to clean/fix for you without payment. Returning fee is on your side.

16. Do you accept for pick up?

-> We may accept pick up in very limited cases. Please contact prior bidding.

17. Can I try your camera before purchasing?

-> Sorry, we don’t have demo for test before purchasing. Before buying IR camera, please research carefully your information to make sure you invest in the right item. However, for your peace of mind, we offer 14 days returning items no questions asked. Just returning the items in its original condition as when you receive it. In this case, you will pay for both sides shipping fee, and also we limit difference of the shutter count will not be more than 20 different with the shutter count we provide when we ship your camera. 20 shots is more than enough to make sure you receive what you expect. If the difference of the shutter count is more than 20, we will then apply 15% restocking fee on the returning items.
