Good Quality, Scarce, Vintage 1890's Crescent China George Jones & Company Fine Bone China Small Coffee Cups & Saucers in the Almonds Green 6052 Pattern showing Birds perched in an Almond Tree. I can accurately date this particular cup & saucer as manufactured between 1891 - 1893. The cup measuring 5.5cm diameter x 5.5cm high (just under 2.25" wide & high) and the saucer 11.5cm (4.5") This listing is per cup and saucer as I do have more than one available and they all look in excellent condition - look virtually unused, may have originally been part of a boxed set. There are no cracks, chips or damage, the pattern is sharp and clear, the glaze very shiny and the gold trim completely intact. The backstamp shown was first introduced in 1874 and the word "England" added from 1891, from 1893 the words "Crescent China" was added. This pattern was also produced in five other colours, black, black & red, brown, blue and multicolour.

The Coalport Connection: In 1856 George Jones opened a pottery showroom in Glebe Street Stoke on Trent. The same year he built the Trent Potteries adjoining the Newcastle-under-Lyne Canal and the Newcastle-Uttoxeter Road. In 1873 the company was renamed as George Jones & Sons, he died in 1893 and the business continued under the same title George Jones & Sons. in 1873 the works was renamed Crescent Potteries. In 1920 Cauldon Potteries moved from their factory in Cauldon Place, Shelton to share the Crescent Pottery Works. In 1924 Coalport China was sold to Cauldon Potteries Ltd who in turn moved in to operate from the Crescent Pottery. In 1955 Coalport China moved from the Crescent Works to the factory of Samuel Redford High Street Fenton. In 1957 Jones & Sons Ltd ceased trading.
