Another absolutely incredible Master carving by

the HAIDA Nations Master carver DONAVON GATES

Have a look at the images - they speaks for itself -

HUMMINGBIRD with FLOWER, Abalone inlaid, beautifully stained to accentuate the natural grain of the wood, polished. This time Donavon used a lighter stain which brings out the deep cuts and rounding. It also accentuates the abalone and it shows clearly the VERY detailed carving and Donavon's love for this art - gorgeous!

THIS IS HIGHEST QUALITY CRAFTSMANSHIP - the details are incredible, the "rounding/doming" of the piece is exceptional!!!!

Measurements: 20" diameter, 2" thick

Donavon Gates: Born on March 10th of 1954, Donavon Gates is a registered member of the Old Massett band from the Haida Gwaii islands on the north west coast of British Columbia. Through his mother’s side of the family he shares the Raven crest, which is one of the two main crests of the Haida nation. Donavon has always remained a carver at heart. Working in such mediums as wood, silver and prints his main material n the earlier days was Argillite - now he is focused on wood carvings - without loosing the skills you need for the Stone carvings. Some of the artist who taught him this craft are Eli Bell, Dilbert Bell, Hector Thompson and Maury Clark
