About the original design
Known worldwide for extraordinary strength and ruggedness, Redencion is the knife that made Ramon Chavez of Chaves Knives a big name in custom knife making industry. Redencion was one of Ramon's first folders and perhaps the most successful and for a good reason. The clean finish, overbuilt and rugged construction and the signature pocket clip made the knife an overnight success. The price tag of a production model was around $600USD or $1500USD for a custom made model.
About the Samier Knives Redencion
The Redencion is built for the toughest and heaviest tasks. This is the knife that puts Medford Praetorian to shame with its badass 0.5mm thick blade made of S35VN stainless steel which is hardened to 60-62 HRC. The blade is hollow ground with a large belly and a beautiful top swedge. The bevels of the blade and the top swedge are stone washed while the flats are finished in hand rubbed satin. This monster will cut, chop and drop anything in its way, then cut some more.
Handles are made of a solid piece of titanium on the lock side and a carbon fiber scale on the presentation side, each at 0.4mm thickness. Adding the 0.6mm thick titanium backspacer, the handle totals 1.4cm. That's what you call a beefy handle. Chaves Knives' signature skull shaped pocket clip is also made of titanium. It is the kind of pocket clip you would want to have sticking out of your pocket.
The blade runs on ball bearing and offers a super silky, glass like blade deployment that you would not see in any knife at this price point, period. The speed of blade deployment in the Redencion leaves most flipper knives for dead. The thumb stud on its own is enough to shoot the blade right out, lightning fast. Then the rock solid framelock kicks in with a clunk (that's music to my ears) and locks very early at around 25% engagement. The detent is very hard as you would expect from such an overbuilt knife. This generates a great amount of resistance that helps with fast deployment, as well as preventing accidental deployment. The blade centering is spot on.
Caution:
This gargantuan weights a staggering 206g, bears a hefty 0.5mm thick blade and packs a no nonsense 18mm in total thickness, including the pocket clip. If you're looking for a fancy little fruit knife, this isn't it. The Redencion requires masculine hands, perhaps the matching character too.
