AFRICAN BOLGA BASKET NATURAL STRAW

These beautiful hand-woven African Baskets are all natural, made from the local elephant grass and natural dyes. The grass grows wild and is harvested, dried into straw and then woven by the women of the village. The men tan the goat hides and work the leather onto the handles. They are made in the village of Bolgatanga, Ghana, Africa

The leather covered handle and the tight weave of the African Basket adds to it’s strength.

This Basket is perfect for carrying  wood for the fireplace,  library books, kids toys or picnics.

Shaping Baskets:

Wet baskets with warm water, shape, turn upside down to dry. They will look perfect every time.

The specialized weaving  process makes these baskets strong and flexible.  Occasionally wetting the African Baskets will re-hydrate the fibers making the basket stronger and lengthening the life of it.

Shaping a Bolga basket is not difficult, but perhaps it is something you don't have the time or desire to do.  If the basket in the picture appears lop-sided or lumpy, or doesn't appear to stand well on its own, odds are it has NOT been shaped.
the basket will be flattened into a box for shipping.  This means you WILL be shaping it upon arrival.
