Original mixed media neon oil painting on canvas board by artist Shelley Jamaine
This is a recent original one off mixed media painting on canvas board on the theme of natural organic shapes and textures combined in an imaginary landscape that I created from my life sketches of trees in forests.
The materials I used for this piece were neon spray paints and neon inks and black oil paint and ink. The silver parts were made with metallic silver paint so these parts reflect the light.
This piece was particularly inspired by imagery of the Grim Reaper that I have been researching whilst researching Gothic horror imagery and stories and I wanted to create multiple figures in this piece, floating in the landscape as if lost. The bold black lines were inspired by the style of English stained glass lead work.
I like to experiment with plant shapes to create stylised natural forms with expressionistic colours ( expressionistic colours are that which are not true to life but are chosen specifically by the artist to fit their interpretation of the subject being painted) and I like to express dream like or nightmarish nature compositions with dark macabre figures and motifs.
Suggested places to hang this painting...
This would make a nice house warming present for someone in a new house who needs a bit of bright modern decoration on the walls and this painting would suit a smaller room or an area of wall such as in a lounge, main bedroom or kitchen.
As the main colours are bright and varied, this painting would look good on a white wall as it would contrast well. This piece would work very well on a very dark wall too as the neon would really stand out.
Dimensions and hanging advice...
The dimensions of this art work are 18 cm x 12.5 cm and the canvas board is 3 mm thick.
This painting is on a canvas board with string attached to the back so it can be hung straight away.
It could also be hung with modern sticky fixers from DIY stores , which are now commonly used for pictures of this size and weight.
The sides are painted black and this painting is also signed on the back.
