These incredibly rare wheels were offered as an expensive option on only the very first, twin square headlight ur quattros. Being forged they were extremely strong and light so were used on the early Group B world rally cars as a forest and gravel wheel, each wheel weighs approximately 6kg.

Fuchs have a long history of producing the finest quality wheels, with the now legendary Porsche 911 wheels amongst others. These quattro wheels are made the same way, forged rather than cast. This produces an extremely strong grain structure to the metal, so that a lighter finished product is achieved. The forged pieces were then post machined to remove any excess material and provide a good surface finish, this surface was then polished in the areas that were to remain unpainted. The wheel was then anodised to obtain a surface that was chemically inert and totally resistant to corrosion, providing a wheel that once painted would look new for decades, whilst being extremely practical for all season use.

I've been into my quattros for years, having owned a total of 6, I've had 2 sets of these wheels waiting for restoration for far too long, having long since sold my last ur. I finally restored both sets recently, one in Zermatt Silver Metallic (Y7Y) and the other in Pearl Effect White Metallic (0A9) It was not an easy process as I was insistent that they were done in exactly the same way as original.
  • Acid dipped at Surface Processing Ltd in Birmingham to remove all grime, dirt and old paint. The best company in the business revealed the clean metal underneath.
  • Inspected for roundness and runout by myself on a lathe, all wheels proved to be remarkably straight and damage free.
  • Vapour blasted gently by myself to ensure that absolutely all areas of the wheel were chemically clean and to provide a lightly abraded surface finish that paint will be sure to adhere to well.
  • The wheels then went to Nick Green of Early911 down in Kent where they were polished and anodised. Over the years Nick has restored many Porsche Fuchs to the highest standard and approached these in the same way. The outer rim was masked off and polished up, as was the raised detailed "cookie cutter" area around the spokes. Nick then anodised the unmasked wheels which slightly dulls the surface to the satin finish that you see today, just the same as original.
  • Finally they were painted in Pearl Effect White Metallic as the originals were. I used Brick Kiln Paint Finishers, a company that I know and have used in the past. Brick Kiln paint for the majority of Formula 1 teams on the grid, they are the best in the business and know their stuff. I wanted these wheels to be the the best and the finish and detail is perfect.
  • The centre caps were vapour blasted and painted at the same time. The inside of the wheels were painted in a tough and durable flat gloss grey.
