This is a beautiful and rare George S Bond wood coffin shaped parlor guitar case from the late 1800's. It has a circular stamp that reads ORIGINAL GSB IMPROVED TRADE MARK. George S Bond was a company that existed from 1880-1923. They specialized in violin cases, but also made guitar cases for Lyon and Healy, Gibson, etc. By the early 1900's, they were no longer making these cases out of wood (which were used to transport guitars via stagecoach), instead using leather, canvas, making hard shell cases, etc, so this probably dates from 1880-1900. If you have an old parlor guitar, you need a case like this, and you know how hard it is to find them! The case has all its original brass hardware with a nice patina. The exterior of the case has scratches, nicks, etc, as you would expect from something 120+ years old, but is in nice condition overall. There are areas where it appears it was lacquered over years ago, cracking in some areas, but maintains a mostly matte black finish. The interior is mottled cream and purple paper with red velvet. It appears the compartment for storing picks, etc is missing. The paper is cracking, and has peeled in areas, but is excellent for its age. The dimensions are: 38 1/4 inches length (exterior), 5 1/2 depth, 14 1/4 at its widest. The interior measurements are 37 3/8 inches in length, and 13 3/8 inches at the lower bout. I will ship to the continental US only. Thanks for looking and good luck!
