Not only does this new Walkman support high-resolution audio files, but it also up-converts your existing mp3 collection to near high-resolution quality, as well. High-Resolution Audio

Unlike many of today’s digital music players, Sony’s Walkman supports high-resolution audio. Typical CD-quality audio files use a 16 bit 44.1KHz sampling rate, but hi-res audio uses a 24 bit 96KHz sampling rate to create an incredible detailed and lifelike soundscape. The mp3 files you buy from any of the major online digital music retailers are encoded at less than 16 bit 44.1KHz sampling rates, so it’s not a stretch to say the Sony Walkman produces sound quality better than anything you’ve heard outside of a live performance. High-resolution audio files are much larger than typical mp3 files. With that in mind, Sony designed this Walkman with 38 gigabytes of internal storage so you can add as much music as you want to the player.
