Antique 1800's English Lancashire Clog-Wood Sole, Leather Upper-Small

Measures: L 6in. x W 2 1/8in.

Black leather upper, steel clasps, brass nails, wood soles, and iron cleats.

Imprinted on the leather sides of the shoes: "J Percival Maker"

The wearing of clogs in Britain became more visible with the Industrial Revolution, when industrial workers needed strong, cheap footwear.  The heyday of the clog in Britain was between the 1840s and 1920s and, although traditionally associated with Lancashire, they were worn all over the country.

Good condition for its age. Some patina on brass nails.
