Vintage TAMA Superstar 4 piece shell pack in custom mahogany satin finish from 1979.  This set is in excellent condition for a vintage kit that will soon celebrate its 40th birthday.

The rack toms are 12x8 and 13x9, the floor tom with correct legs (spiked with adjustable rubber feet and chromed locking ring) is 16x16, while the bass drum is 22x14.  The bass drum includes the spurs, which are correct for this era, as well as the double tom-mount that retains its memory locks (all 3).

In terms of general background, this set is one of the "transition" kits from 1979 when TAMA was making the move from stained satin finishes and re-ring shells to the "Super" gloss finishes and 9mm shells without rerings then produced through 1986.  As a result, this kit has the 1976-1979 satin Custom Mahogany finish, but the 9mm no-rering shell. The rack toms all have the tone controls, and all work properly.

All the hardware is, to my knowledge, correct and in excellent working condition (the one Swingstar lug appearing on one of the rack tom's has been replaced with the Superstar version). All four of the drums have nearly new Remo heads, while the bass drum has a TAMA logoed front head and Remo Pinstripe on the batter side. All of these heads were purchased and installed this past summer.

There are few finish imperfections, but I've done my best to capture them in the photos. Given the typical condition of these drums as seen on eBay and other outlets, the condition of this set is by comparison 'immaculate.'  The stack of 3 toms was rotated for each of the three pictures so that you can see all the panels on all the toms. The bass drum has been photographed from each side, as well as from above. I also took some of these pictures in varied lighting so that the drums can be seen in filtered (by drapery sheers) and indirect (shaded) sunlight.

In case they are not legible in the pictures, the badge numbers are...

12x8 tom:  91696

13x9 tom: 91701

16x16 tom:  90819

22x14 bass drum: 91003

BTW, these numbers do not identify a precise production order or date but, rather, their approximate production period.  Neither TAMA nor other manufactures treated badge/serial numbers as some do today.  All of those for this transition-era kit, however, are in the correct range; all have the same Custom Mahogany satin finish; and all have the 9mm, no rering birch shells.

SHIPPING REALITY: The cost has risen significantly over the past few years. In early February I shipped a nested 3 pc DW kit from Indiana to Florida. I nested these into two boxes for safe travel, and the only hardware being three floor tom legs, a retro tom mount and two bass-drum mounted cymbal arms.  The cost for Fedex Ground was $328. I'm perfectly serious. If the direct cost for shipping this Tama kit comes in under the $225 I'm estimating, then I will gladly refund you the difference. I'm not trying to make money on shipping, but I cannot afford to lose money on it either, as I did with the DW kit.

NOTE: For those of you who might be interested, I also have (1) a vintage hardware pack of two Titan cymbals stands, snare stand, hihat and single bass drum pedal, as well as (2) an 18x16 Superstar floor tom (badge 95434) from this same period. The stands are in excellent condition, as is the hardware on the floor tom which, importantly, has the correct spur/rubber foot tom legs. The floor tom has been refinished by a previous owner, however, in a stain that has a browner tint to it and it also is a matte finish. It would need to be restained to properly match the shell pack.  I have not listed the hardware or the 18x16 floor as yet, as I plan to make these available to the buyer of the shell pack; a form of first right of refusal.

I am selling this and a wide variety of other percussion items in excellent used condition. Some have merely been sound-checked and others hardly played, but technically these are used since they've been owned.

Although I have indicated 3 days to ship, my practice is to ship the day after your payment is made.  Some cymbals may have some stick marks and fingerprints from handling. Only wood tip sticks have been used with this cymbal.

All items have been cleaned and inspected before the photos were taken, and then pre-boxed for shipping. All items are sold as-is.

Thanks for looking, and I am glad to answer any questions that you have on this item/listing.

Prompt payment required, PayPal only, no returns/refunds, and shipping only to CONUS.
