The Emperor in Box Frame (Morpho helenor peleides)

A Emperor butterfly in a hand made wooden frame mounted on high quality acid free conservation board. The latin and common names are printed underneath the specimen.

The Emperor belongs to the Peleides family of butterflies. The butterfly is also known as the Peleides Blue Morpho or Common Morpho. The amazing blue colour in the wings is caused by the diffraction of the light from millions of microscopic scales on its delicate wings. It uses these to scare away predators, by flapping its wings rapidly.

Its wingspan reaches 7–20 centimetres (3.0–7.9 in).

Sex: Male.

Distribution: Morpho peleides can be found in found in Mexico, Central America, South America, Paraguay, and Trinidad.
