African Swallowtail Butterfly in Box Frame (Papilio Dardanus)

A beautiful African Swallowtail butterfly in a hand made wooden frame mounted on high quality acid free conservation board. The latin and common names are printed underneath the specimen.

The African Swallowtail belongs to the Papilionidae family of butterflies. The butterfly is also known as the Mocker Swallowtail or Flying Handkerchief. The famous entomologist E. B. Poulton described it as the most interesting butterfly in the world. The female of the species is a master of protective disguise. They are remarkably diverse and mimic other butterflies, so protecting themselves against predators.

Its wingspan reaches 10–12 centimetres (3.9–4.7 in).
