RARE CIVIL WAR ZOUAVE SWORD BAYONET ~COLLINS & CO~1861 This rare Civil War Zouave Bayonet made by Collins & Co. in Hartford, CT in 1861 has a beautiful blue-brown patina and is in excellent, solid condition. Both the handle and cross-bar are solid aged brass,. The large rifle ring (approx 20 mm inside diameter) fits the 1861 Plymouth/Whitneyville Navy rifle and Remington 1863 percussion contract rifle. The 20" inch blade is straight and smooth. There is no active rust, but there is a small nick in the blade (see photos). The Collins maker’s mark is stamped on one side of the blade and the date 1861 on the other side. The 4.75 inch brass handle is in good solid shape, exhibiting an attractive combination of dark patina and yellow brass. The serial number 18 is stamped both on the top of the handle and back of the pommel. There is a beautiful leather and brass scabbard that is tight and in great shap. Scabbard has some color removal from age but leather is flexible with no cracks. The scabbard has the original leather frog however the belt straps are missing. A fantastic addition to any Civil War Edged Weapon Collection!!!
