Bring back the original / ‘rubber strap’ diver look as intended by the original SEIKO 6105 designer – Mr. Tokunaga
http://www.tokunaga.ne.jp/en/museum/list.html
My story
This is the watch that got me personally hooked with SEIKOs – the 6105-8110 cushion diver.
If you are reading this page, then most likely you are a 6105 owner and have tried a multitude of straps for your 6105 as I have – including: nato straps (black, grey and olive), leather natos (grey and black), original tropic strap, SEIKO Marinemaster strap, super oyster with custom end links, shark suit mesh…
World-wide SEIKO watch collecting community project:
SEIKO produced the 6217 and 6105s starting in the late 1960s. Replacement OEM SEIKO straps have depleted many years ago, but the SEIKO 6105 watches themselves have lasted with very little maintenance. This left a void for 6105 owners as original SEIKO straps / parts were no longer available. WILLARD Project was a combined effort with the SEIKO watch collecting community – over a one year process with SEIKO watch enthusiasts from around the world (North America, South America, Europe, Australia and Asia). Used modern materials (rubber compounds) and technology (CAD), to produce a better / stronger product for our vintage SEIKO diver. Over one year, and many many many editions on adjusting the rubber compound to get the compound formula just right – same feel, texture, comfort and flexibility with added strength so this will NOT dry out and crack as in the original designs of +40 years ago.
Thank you to the SEIKO watch collecting community for bringing this project to reality !!!
Key Features
1:1 spec vs. original 6105 dive strap. Top & bottom, front and back. Also including 1:1 flared buckle 316L stainless steel by using modern CAD (computed aided design technology)
History
The Seiko 6105 were favored by American G.I.s who were either stationed in or passed thru Japan during the Vietnam War Era.
Great read by Ryan (SCWF), illustrating that the 6105 were not ‘cheap’ watches, but great quality expensive watches of approx 1/2 month salary ($ 1,500-$ 1,800 equivalent) today’s standard !

· Favored by SEIKO collectors and military collectors. Not an official military issued watch, however commonly worn by military officials which were popular for its value and quality.
· As depicted in Apocalypse Now – 6105 on waffle (and 2nd XGL-731 strap) worn by Captain Willard (Martin Sheen).
