INTRODUCTION:

I'm a watch enthusiast and collector.  At any given point in time I have anywhere from 250-300 watches. All of them, whether for display or personal use, are stored in cases for display. I periodically wind the manual-wind watches, rotate the automatic watches on a six station Wolf winder, and store my quartz watches with the crown pulled out so as to preserve the battery. Most of these watches are not purchased for personal use, but for display only and potential resale later.  I keep the watches on display (some for many years) until I find another watch that I just have to have, then I sell one to buy one. Of the 270 watches I have at the moment about 50 are for my personal use and when (if) sold will be sold as pre-owned. Another 100 or so are very nice vintage watches: Hamiltons, Angelus, Illinois, Omegas, Longines, Rolexes, Tudors, etc., that  I may never sell; but, then again, as James Bond said: "Never say never". I know that to a normal person this all sounds bizarre. I see it as a more or less self-sustaining hobby that gives me immense enjoyment in my retirement years.

SUMMARY

This is a very nice PHILIP WATCH with the very desireable Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph movement. Those who know watches know the Valjoux movement is a few cuts above the standard ETA movements, which are fine movements in their own right. Please don't confuse Philip Watch with any of the other watches out there with the name Phillip or Philip in the brand name.  There is no connection.

I try my best to describe my items as accurately as possible.  However, descriptive terms are often open to individual interpretation.  Your best guide to the watch's condition will be the many detailed high resolution photographs provided to help you make your evaluation.

DETAILS

DIAL:

Black with applied silver numerals and markers, silver hands and applied silver sub-dials. Perfect condition.

CRYSTAL:

The watch back says nothing about the composition of the crystal, but it is either sapphire or mineral. I say that because of its pristine condition, implying a high level of scratch resistance.

BEZEL, CASE, AND BACK:

The case and bezel are of a combination of brushed and polished stainless steel, while the screw-down back is of stainless steel and mineral glass or sapphire. All are in extra fine condition.  I see no abrasions or scratches.

BAND:

Croco leather with a signed stainless steel deployant (deployment) clasp.  The clasp is also in pristine condition.  The leather band presents as new.

CROWN:

Ribbed and signed stainless steel.

SIZE:

42mm across the top excluding the crown with a 22mm lug width.

MOVEMENT:

Valjoux 7750 automatic.

CONDITION:

This is a pre-owned watch in almost new condition. I have worn it several times; but, with a different band.  That's why the band and clasp are in practically new condition.

ERRATA:

A word about Quartz watches and batteries: I check all my watches for a working battery before I list and before I ship and I will replace it if it is not working.  Even though I store my watches with the crown pulled out, there may be occasions a buyer might receive a watch only to have the battery run down soon after. Even a new watch that has been sitting on the shelf for a while will discharge the battery over time. I have no way of knowing the age of a battery in any watch unless I have personally replaced it. Battery replacement is the sole responsibility of the buyer.

A word about mechanical watches: All mechanical watches, whether manual wind or automatic wind, will need periodic servicing simply due to the friction of its moving parts. Generally, I do not know the service history of pre-owned watches I sell, unless I personally have had the watch serviced. I time all watches for at least 24 hours prior to listing and 12 hours prior to shipment. If it doesn't maintain acceptable accuracy I don't list it or I won't ship it and the buyer will receive a refund.

PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT YOUR BID SIGNALS YOUR INTENT TO BUY THE WATCH.  UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE PURCHASING BY CAREFULLY READING THE DESCRIPTIONS AND EXAMINING THE PHOTOGRAPHS.  THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE DESCRIPTION. RETURNS WILL BE ACCEPTED ONLY IN THE EVENT THE ITEM IS NOT MATERIALLY AS DESCRIBED OR IS NOT FUNCTIONING AS DESCRIBED.
