c1900 Vintage Scottish Cow Horn Tinkler Gypsy Snuff Pill Box

This is a Vintage Scottish Cow Horn Tinkler Gypsy Snuff Pill Box

It measures 3" X 1.75" X 3/4". It has lovely striations and is beautifully curved. The pattern on each one is unique as it is natural cow horn.

Nice Polished Finish , In good order with no cracks or splits. Good hinge with nice tight lid.

These types of Items were carved from cow horns.  In Scotland and elswhere this was often undertaken by gypsy tinkler travellers who would perform chores on farms such as de-horning cattle. In return they were allowed to keep the horns which they turned into trinkets such as these to sell.
