ORIGINAL EXCEPTIONAL 1862 AMES CIVIL WAR USN NAVAL CUTLASS SWORD. Bought from local estate. One of 2 super clean cutlasses from a local estate. Ames marked and 1862 dated. Ames logo is clear, just hard to photograph. Blade is amazing - bright with no sharpening or nicks - very rare for these seaborne weapons. Grip has leather intact with some scuffs, wire missing as is nearly all issued cutlasses. Serial numbered guard, guard has light ding, light age, some good original gilt still intact. Scabbard is solid, good leather, tip a bit bent but still firmly attached. Great fit, tight sword. Untouched out of the woodwork, blade should polish up to near perfection! Guaranteed original!
