Original Acrylic Watercolour Wood Cut Painting Contemporary Owl in the Moonlight
Description: Framed - approx 12 x 17 inches (30 x 43 cm), this is a fabulous depiction of an owl at rest on a tree branch its head turned slightly toward the viewer otherwise turned away. The back has been removed and replaced since the photographs were taken in order to examine the technique, or more likely techniques that have been used. It appears to have been created from a combination of techniques. Firstly under the mounting board the edges show bleed as from a silk screen or vinyl block stencil or print technique. It is a sharp line. Secondly the surface of the work itself is textured with the use of thick almost impasto like gouache. here is a rough finish. It lo0oks like the artist would have carved out the image and then painted over. It is a remarkably effective piece that captures the bird in it's natural habitat through a rich palette of tawny browns, perched on a bare leafed tree, the landscape beneath in the form of a patchwork of fields. The full moon creating a silhouette in the darkness.
