Charming Original Primitive Devonshire House Watercolour Painting Terrier Dogs
Description: An excellent watercolour on artist's paper dating circa 1910, unframed - measuring approx 14 x 9 inches (36 x 23 cm). This is a charming study of a man and young girl in the gardens of a Devonshire house, he holds a stick, two terrier dogs running across the lawn towards them. Their clothing is edwardian in style, the man wearing a baggy working jacket unbuttoned to reveal suited trousers and a buttoned westcot. He wears a full beard and unusually wears a headress reminiscent of a pirate's bandana!. She wears a ribboned bonnet, cuffed jacket and full knee length skirt. Beautifully painted with good attention to detail they stand in a summer garden, flowers hollyhocks, rough lawn before a white painted range of houses, shutters thrown back, trellising and planting breaking up the shape. Beyond the house a beautifully modelled church tower, turreted external staircase, the block work achieved with delicate shading.
Condition: The paper has slightly discoloured with age and there are some general marks and signs of foxing otherwise retaining good colour.
