Montblanc Monte Rosa vintage fountain pen: hex cap, 14k F nib, excellent

Another attempt to rationalise my ever-evolving and expanding collection of vintage fountain pens.  I'm going to try really hard to keep just the dozen or so I use regularly, and wish the others to a new home - and (hopefully) the more active life they deserve.

So, over the following weeks (or as soon as I get around to it) I'll be listing pens from:
- UK: Conway Stewart (and offshoots), Mabie Todd (Swan), de la Rue (Onoto), Wyvern, Dickinson
- Germany: Montblanc, Soennecken, Pelikan, Osmia, Bohler, Geha
- Denmark: Stabil, Miller, Imperial
- others: Parker, Waterman, Sheaffer, Wahl Eversharp
Hopefully, there'll be something here that you'll fancy...?

This listing is for my hexagonally tipped (Mont Blanc) Monte Rosa from, I think, the early 1960s.  I've photographed it alongside a number of other pens for size comparison - from left to right: Montblanc 264, Monte Rosa, Conway Stewart 388, Swan 3261, Osmia 74, Montblanc 146, and Parker 51.

I've had it longer, and used it more (if not a great deal) than any other functioning MR I've owned - partly because it's a nice size (around the same as a Parker 51, for example - where other MRs tend to be a little on the small side), but mostly because it's an absolute pleasure to use.

This MR has been very well looked after in its 60 odd years - and is free of notable scratches, dings or, God forbid, splits or cracks.  The body of the pen and the gold brightwork are excellent, the diamond ink windows are clear, the piston-filling system is smooth and efficient, the cap is snug and the clip solidly clippy.  Both ends of this era of MR are hexagonal, which is kinda neat.  The nib is superb - a semi-flex Montblanc, as opposed to a Monte Rosa (so upgraded at some point), engraved 'MONT BLANC', '14C', and MONTBLANC 585' (585 referring to 58.5% gold content, or 14k), that writes with a beautiful, smooth fine line (see photo).

Finally, the pen has been cleaned / flushed and the whole thing given a good shine with Renaissance Wax: it looks terrific and is ready to be re-inked to your specification.

Why am I selling?  I have so many vintage MBs and, in trying to reduce to 5 or 6 (or thereabouts), some painful decisions have been made - in this case my (also: medium sized, lightweight, slim - and smooth, fine, semi-flex nibbed) MB24 beat it by a short nose in a photo finish.

In summary, you are bidding on a superb vintage fountain pen that completely belies its 60 odd years: the auction starts at virtually nothing - £20.  You won't regret it.  Good luck!
