How rare is the car? In the history of Saab North America….

They made 4228 9-3 Aero Convertibles with the V6 engine (largest engine ever offered in a Saab convertible)

Saab Made the High Performance Aero with V6 engine for only 3 years, 2006-2008.

Only 772 of those Saab 9-3 Aero Convertibles had the very rare 6 speed manual transmission.

Only 34 of those featured Laser Red Paint. (Less than 4% of Saabs are red)

Only 3 of those had beige cloth tops. (Rare Top Color)

Only 1 of those was made in the desirable 2007 model year, this one.

According to the Saab registry database online, of all Saab convertibles there are only 2 registered with less odometer miles for ALL years and ALL locations:.

And according to the Swiss Performance firm Hirsch that was the equivalent for  Saab of M Series (BMW) and AMG (Mercedes),  less than twenty 9-3 Aero Convertibles received the Hirsch performance upgrade per their records. In an email to Felix Minder at Hirsch Performance in Switzerland on 9/27/16 I asked "As a collector of Saabs and someone proud of your products, I was wondering if you could provide data to me? I'm wondering how many 9-3 aero convertibles in the USA have received your performance tuning" to which his reply was "It will be one of very few, right when we opened the US marked for us, Saab went bankrupt. Maybe one of twenty?" The vehicle is very, very fast with the responsive turbo charger and Hirsch upgrade. The vehicle is governed to reach a speed of 164mph although I’ve not had it above 100mph on the interstate and was not even yet in 6th gear. Published specifications from Hirsch state the following: 275hp @ 5500rpm, 400Nm @ 2000rpm, 0-100kph in 6.7s, 60-100kph in 4th gear in 4.0s, 80-120kph in 5th gear in 6.9s. This vehicle is a one half to two seconds faster in all benchmarks than a standard Saab Aero V6.

Hirsch was authorized by Saab North America as a dealer performance upgrade eligible for those Saabs in North America as the only legal means to have a high performance Saab without voiding the Saab factory warranty. Unfortunately, only a couple Saab dealer locations in the USA had the costly equipment required by Saab and the necessary training by Hirsch in Switzerland to do the authorized performance upgrades. This is one of those unicorn cars that got the Hirsch upgrade.

It gets better. The car was literally owned and driven by a little old lady in California who bought it for just shy of $50,000 from Swedish Motor Cars-Orange County / Saab of Mission Viejo. The first owner (I’m the second owner) acquired the car new in 2008 and it was received by a living trust registered for her benefit at an address in Southern California. Sadly, the original owner’s estate had no idea what kind of collector car they actually owned and the estate traded off to a Lexus dealer in Southern California that in turn dealer transferred it to an auto auction and ultimately to a luxury used car dealer on the Pacific Coast Highway in Hermosa Beach, California. I bought the car the first day they offered it for sale and had it imported to the Midwest last Fall.

Since this car is of such high quality, low miles and in the rarest of all configurations I invested into what is required to make this a show winning car. I spent $500 on auto detailing of the car including clay bar work, $2000 on having the front cowling replaced (they ALL crack when people hit curbs), and I hired the best paintless dent repair company in the Midwest to remove every micro dent from the car’s exceptional original paint. This vehicle is ready to be a show winner and is survivor class eligible also.

A list of the documentation included: Original window sticker (Monroney), original sales records of a Mr. Ted Bickler that sold the car, warranty documentation, warranty and service record booklet, infotainment manual, in car safety and reference guide, pirelli tire warranty, owners manual, canvas folder, lojack early warning certificate and folio, super polysteel window protection warranty, current owner records from authorized Saab service center, Hirsch performance certificate from hirsch-performance.ch and other miscellaneous documentation relevant to the collector.

The only other work done to the car was a new battery installed last week and scheduled maintenance by Patrick Cadillac-Saab in Schaumburg, Illinois.

The vehicle includes a high quality Saab car cover, two sets of keys, all the original manuals and paperwork, back seat windscreen/tanneau cover and my records of the vehicle.  No accidents. Clean vehicle history report. This is simply the finest and rarest modern Saab you'll find anywhere.

Prior to my purchase of the vehicle less than a year, less than 1000 miles ago, I hired one of the best known Saab experts in the nation to personally inspect the vehicle. Anders at Swedecar in Torrance, CA personally inspected and drove the car before I acquired it as I wanted to make sure the car was as impeccable as I believed it to be. His testimonial and assurances led me to acquire the car sight unseen.

Update as of June 21, this eBay listing has caught the attention of the collector and Saab auto blogs online. There is a nice feature about this car on Saabplanet this morning front-and-center on their homepage. Thanks for the blogging Saab fans!
