A voluminous crinoline skirt dating to the 1860s, possibly a wedding skirt. Lightweight soft silk in a creamy ivory, the skirt is pleated in to the self fabric waistband all around to create the distinctive domed shape ( this is from the height of the hoop skirt era and could go bigger than i've shown it - it's shown over a hoop, not included, and the white part visible at the top is the corset on the mannequin, and not part of the skirt) Inside is fully lined with stiff buckram, it looks like the lining was done before the skirt was made, so that it is caught in to the pleats, giving extra fullness. There is a hidden pocket in amongst the pleats, and hook fastenings. Attached ago the waistband are cotton 'braces' which may be later additions.

CONDITION

Good, no damage to the silk but there are some small marks and the hem is dirty. One hook is missing and one eye is loose. Around the hem are the remains of a decorative trim - small pieces of blue velvet and the remnants of the stitching that attached it. Quite creased.

Approx measurements - waist 24 front length 43
