At auction is an ALPA 10d single-lens-Reflex (SLR) black-finish camera body made by Pignons S.A. of Switzerland between 1968 and 1974.  This is a rare black finish camera as only 946 black cameras were made by Pignons.  This camera uses standard 35mm film in standard cassettes to produce 24X36mm negatives.  The camera accepts interchangeable lenses.  It accepts ALPA bayonet-mount lenses.  This camera has a cloth, horizontal-travel, focal-plane shutter with speeds B, 1 - 1000.  All speeds work and sound about right to the ear. The shutter curtains are in beautiful condition with no tears or holes and it functions perfectly.  The camera's reflex viewfinder is clean but has a very slight discoloration in the upper right corner that does not interfere with its use at all.  The film advance lever works smoothly, as it should.  The camera has a built-in light meter that I was unable to test because I do not have the appropriate battery that powers the meter.  The light meter was designed to use a RM450 or PX450 battery but such batteries are now obsolete.  ALPA provided adapters when the batteries became obsolete, but they would be hard to find now.  There is a business in Great Britain that makes and adapter for this camera that uses currently available batteries.  The camera is in excellent+ cosmetic condition with only a very minor scratch to the paint on top of the reflex prism housing.    There are no dents or brassing on the camera body.  The leatherette is fully intact and beautiful.  All camera functions work well.  The camera will come with a photo copy of the instruction manual.  This is a great usable and collectible 35mm SLR with the quality of workmanship that is unsurpassed.
