"In-Bomber"

1957 Chevrolet 210 Hardtop

1968 NHRA Nationals H/Stock Class Champion

Offered here for sale is the only known example of a fully restored, NHRA "Indy" Nationals winning '57 Chevy "Jr. Stocker" in the world. A one of a kind example of incredible drag racing history. The car itself is a very rare 210 Hardtop, of which comparatively few numbers were made, and very few examples exist today. The car has competed in numerous NHRA competitions and at dragstrips across the country between 1966-1970, and has been painstakingly restored to "as raced" in 1969. The car was featured in the summer 1969 issue of "1001 Custom and Rod Ideas", as well as mentions in several other performance magazines of the era. The restored car was debuted at the 2010 York Nostalgia Reunion, and was shown at the 2011 Foxwoods/MGM Grand Red Carpet Rumble, along side such cars as the original Stone, Woods, and Cook Willys Gassers and the Hill Bros. "Red Baron". This car is 100% fully documented from A-Z.

HISTORY

The car started life as a factory Harbor Blue '57 Chevy 210 2dr Hardtop with Larkspur Blue trim, and was purchased by the "PNP Racing Team" of Omaha, Nebraska, in 1965. The team, consisting of brothers Don and Ken Patrick, along with Ken Nelson, prepared the car for stock class NHRA competition and brought it to it's first race at Great Bend Drag Stip in Kansas in 1966. The car ran the 283 cu. in./283 hp class with Rochester Fuel Injection most of it's life, briefly running dual quads in 1969 as it does today. The name "In-Bomber" was a play on words with the car's Injection, and an intimidating Embalmer theme. The car has competed at dragstrips in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, Indiana, Texas, California, and Minnesota, as well as the 1968 and 1969 NHRA Winternationals at Pomona, California, the 1968 and 1969 NHRA Nationals at Indy, and the 1969 NHRA Springnationals at Dallas, Texas. The car was the H/Stock Class Champion at the 1968 NHRA Nationals driven by Fred Anderson of the "Good In-Tension" '57 Chevy fame. The car was also Top Stock Eliminator Semi Finalist at the event, beating George Cureton's famous "Tokyo Rose" '56 Chevy Delivery, and losing to the infmaous "Buckshot" Corvette of the Larry Lombardo/Bill Jenkins Team. The car was raced it's last season in 1970 by Duane Dickens under ownership of the Patrick Bros. The car was then retired, and would spend the next 30 years sitting outside in Craig, Nebraska. Over 3 years were spent restoring the car from the gound up to "as raced" condition. The car features it's original one-piece "California" frame, Tension Team adjustable ladder bars, and all original body panels. All the fenders, hood, and trunk are the original tin this car raced with. All the chrome and stainless are the original pieces to the car. The tires are NOS Firestone Drag front runners, and NOS Mickey Thompson 7" Cheater Slicks. The wheels are the original chrome reverse that the car ran at Indy in 1968. The engine is the correct 1962 283 that the car ran, backed by a Hurst equipped Borg Warner Super T-10 4-speed. Some of the engine's specs exceed the class regulations of the day, but all components used are period correct. The result is an incredibly vintage and unusual, high horsepower small block Chevy. The rear is a P-Case Chevrolet posi with 4:56 gears. The dashboard is signed by Jr. Stock racers George Cureton, "Buck" Wheatley, and Larry Lombardo, as well as Bill Jenkins, and Mike Cook of SWC Willys fame. A truly unique and outstanding piece of NHRA history.

The pictures speak for themselves. This car is flawless inside, out, and underneath. The history is just endless, and fully documented.  M2 Machines is in the process of making a diecast toy of this car, and Decals By Lucas just released 1/25 scale model car decals for the "In-Bomber". The car is mechanically sound and new, and the engine runs cool on pump gas. This car has everything going for it. Being not only one of the most iconic cars in American history, but a rare 210 hardtop model makes this even more special. The history is phenominal, right out of the golden age of drag racing and winning at the most prestigious event possible. Being a Jr. Stocker means that this car was never altered to the extent that most race cars in other classes were. These were "stock" cars modified under the most strict rules to out perform the competition, while still maintaining such features as full interiors, bumpers, stock glass, and factory sheet metal. The condition of this car is absolutely perfect. The entire engine compartment and chassis of the car is painted gloss white just as it was. Every decal was carefully researched and placed using a combination of rare NOS original and custom reproduced stickers. The lettering and graphics are all hand painted, and the name on the doors is hand-turned Gold Leaf. This car would be the highlight of any drag racing or Tri-Five collection, and is a true one of a kind.
