Do I need a CR2032 BATTERY and or HOLDER?

Simply put, if your game is over 10 years old then yes!

Not so simply put...

If your Super Nintendo game refuses to hold a save data then you probably need a new battery installed. If your game does save and then after a few days deletes your save data then your battery is probably almost dead and you need a battery installed. If your game does not boot up at all, or has other issues not related to saving a battery is not going to fix it! It may need taken apart and cleaned really well, or maybe it is just broken.

Even if your game does hold a save installing a CR2032 battery holder is a good idea. Think of it as regular scheduled maintenance on a car. Super Nintendo and almost every other cartridge based game use internal save batteries. These batteries have a estimate of 10 years, but tend to last 10-15 years in most cases. If you're familiar with batteries then you know after they expire they can and eventually will leak corrosive acid which can damage or even break your games. This is why it is a good idea to change your batteries early so your internal battery does not leak and corrode the delicate PCB in the game shell.

WHAT IS A CR2032 BATTERY HOLDER?

Super Nintendo games all use a standard CR2032 internal coin battery for saving data. A CR2032 Holder is a battery holder that allows you to swap batteries so you never have to solder another in when the old one dies. This makes changing batteries in the future as easy a opening the game up, popping the battery out with your thumb, and popping a new one in. However, the initial installation of the holder does require soldering. If you were to opt out of using a holder you would have to solder in a new battery every 10 years and risk damaging your game every 10 or so years. So it just makes sense to do it right the first time.

How it works:

1. You win the auction.

2. send me your game(s), in a light re-usable package. I really prefer standard padded envelopes, not the plastic ones because they rip when opening them. If you are sending expensive games I completely understand if you want to use a box. Also wrap your games in something like a plastic grocery store bag in case of heavy rain. Finally, the most important part is to include in the package your eBay user name, address, and games being done on a piece of paper.

3. I  receive the games and test them before working on them make sure they work.

4. Then I solder in a brand new CR2032 battery holder, and install a Sony CR2032 battery, and clean the game inside and out. And when I say I clean them I really mean it. As long as I am not risking label damage I will try and get everything off, including VOID stickers from rental stores, and permanent magic marker. I have been doing this for a very long time and I am very good at cleaning these games up. I will also clean the game PCB and contacts really well.

5. You only pay for shipping the games to me. I will take care of the return postage which will include delivery conformation.

7. I only need the cartridge. Please do not send the boxes!

How long does the process take?

I make every attempt to get these battery changes done in a timely manner. However, I do work a full time job, and work three 12 hour shifts a week. If I am not stuck working a few days in a row I will do the games same day and ship the next morning. The most I will ever work in a row is 3 days. So your games should be done and shipped back no later than 4-5 days in a worst case scenario. So hopefully the whole process will take anywhere between 3-7 post office working days until the games are back in your hand.

BE AWARE SAVE DATA WILL MOST LIKELY BE LOST IF YOU SEND ME A GAME WITH A GOOD BATTERY AND SAVES ALREADY ON IT. SO IT IS NOT 100% GUARANTEED YOUR DATA WILL BE LOST. JUST ASSUME IT WILL, AND IF IT IS NOT THEN YOU ARE LUCKY. I FIND ABOUT 1 IN 5 GAMES RETAINS DATA WHEN I CHANGE THE BATTERIES. PLEASE REFER TO THE TOP OF THE DESCRIPTION IF YOU WANT TO RETAIN SAVE DATA. IT CAN BE DONE FOR $1.00 Extra for SUPER NINTENDO GAMES ONLY!!

How are the holders installed?

I install the holders professionally! I do not tape these in! I use a panvise to make sure I do not drop your game. I open the games using the correct reverse torque security bit so I don't scratch the game shell. I desolder the old battery using a de-soldering pump and de-soldering braid. I then completely clean the game inside and out really well. I will remove any stickers not on the front and back labels and get rid of all the sticker residue unless stated not to do so. I will try and remove permanent marker as well. Then I will clean the contacts and game PCB. Then I install the new battery holder, give you a new battery, check the connections with a multi-meter, and test it out. It is a dangerous process for unexperienced people. The soldering iron is very hot and can break the game if you do not know what you are doing. I have changed hundreds of games in the past from my own collection and a few here for people on eBay.

Check my other auctions.

Need a battery replaced, or a battery holder I can do that. Check my battery replacement auctions. Battery holder installation is for SNES games only because the holders don't fit in other cartridge based games without cutting the shells. I can also change batteries (no holders) for Genesis, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, and GBA. For NES games I can usually install holders but they barely fit, I do these on all my NES games but be aware the top of the game may not close completely, but is barely noticeable.
